Operations Base

 

Basra, Iraq

 

Ridley & Partners' staff worked on a green-field design-build operations base project for Shell. This facility is located in Basra, Iraq and serves as Shell's main operations base associated with their stake in the Basra Gas Company.

 

Phase I of the project consisted of the full development of a plot of land approximately 300 meters (m) X 300m. Phase II of the project consisted of the full development of an extension to the original plot of land, also measuring approximately 300m X 300m. Phase III of the project consisted of in-fill development within both the Phase I and Phase II areas.

 

This facility represented the initial green field permanent operations base to break ground following the 2003 war. As such it featured unique and client specific features to accommodate the physical and security environment of Iraq. A general overview of the provided facilities included the following elements:

  • Self-contained utility systems including power generation, power distribution, packaged water treatment plant, packaged sanitary sewer waste water treatment plan, comprehensive internet, communications, and telecommunications (ICT) systems.
  • All facilities consisted of concrete masonry unit (CMU) construction with pre-engineered building (PEB) roofs.
  • Third generation ballistic protected structures consisted of PEBs with concrete fragmentation layers that were fully finished on-site.
  • Comprehensive welfare and morale facilities including a fully tiled Olympic sized in ground pool.

Operations Base

Ridley & Partners' staff worked on a green-field design-build operations base project for Schlumberger. This facility is located in Basra, Iraq and serves as their main operating facility in the country of Iraq.

 

Phase I of the project consisted of the full development of a plot of land approximately 300 meters (m) X 300m. Phase II of the project consisted of the full development of an extension to the original plot of land, also measuring approximately 300m X 300m. Phase III of the project consisted of in-fill development within both the Phase I and Phase II areas.

 

This facility represented the initial green field permanent operations base to break ground following the 2003 war. As such it featured unique and client specific features to accommodate the physical and security environment of Iraq. A general overview of the provided facilities included the following elements:

  • Self-contained utility systems including power generation, power distribution, packaged salt water desalination water treatment plant, packaged sanitary sewer waste water treatment plan, comprehensive internet, communications, and telecommunications (ICT) systems.
  •  Modular building facilities composed of forty (40) foot (ft) ISO shipping containers.
  • Workshops and other finished spaces composed of Pre-Engineered Buildings (PEBs).
  • Innovated approaches to ballistics protected structures including road fronting blast wall as well as first-generation  overhead protective structures utilizing PEBs and concrete confrontation layers as an alternative to E-Glass structures.
  • Masonry/Concrete calibration facilities utilizing non-furious fiber-glass reinforcing bars.

Brigade Level Base

 

Baghdad, Iraq

 

 

Ridley & Partners' staff worked on a green-field design-build brigade level base located in the area known as the Green Zone located in Baghdad, Iraq.

 

The force structure associated with the base build consisted of four (4) each infantry battalions, a brigade headquarters, as well as a ancillary support structures.

 

The projects four (4) infantry battalions each received new two-story billeting and office structures. As such a total of sixteen (16) new structures were built with all remaining building facility needs supported by the renovation of existing building within the facility.

 

To support the new construction as well as the renovation a self-contained utility system was installed to provide for power generation and distribution. Potable water as well as sanitary sewer was supplied throughout the facility with temporary backup plant equipment and main city utility connections.

Central Production Facility

 

Basra, Iraq

 

Ridley & Partners' staff worked on a green-field design-build central production facility (CPF). This facility is located in Basra, Iraq and was a green-field project executed by a international Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) on the behalf of LukOil. Our staff executed all site civil works in support of the construction of the CPF.

 

An overview of the executed works includes the following elements:

 

  • Fifteen (15) foundations for bulk storage tanks. Diameters ranged from 7.2 meters (m) to 33 m. All tanks rested on driven pre-cast piles with raft foundations over 2,000 Cubic Meters (CM) of concrete.
  • Erection of pre-engineered pipe racks and sleepers.
  • All related site civil preparation including grading, pavement, landscaping, and associated site civil features.

Ducting Installation

 

Joint Base Charleston, South Carolina

 

Ridley & Partners, Inc. was engaged, on an urgent basis, during the holiday season, to replace the supply and return ducting system, for a 10,000 square foot (sf) temporary US Air Force military passenger terminal located, in Charleston, South Carolina.

 

The modular facility was originally configured for an alternative layout and the new layout required an updated ducting system throughout the structure.

 

Our work consisted of new supply, return, and associated accessories, for eleven (11) each wall mounted packaged units and consisted of the following definable features of work:

 

  • 7,000 lbs of sheet metal duct work
  • Insulation of supply lines
  • Installation of 150 supply and return registers with associated taps and flexible duct work
  • Testing and commissioning of packaged units

Detention Facility

 

Taji, Iraq

 

 

Ridley & Partners' staff worked on a green-field design-build detention facility located within Taji Airbase. The facilities design criteria included detention space for 5,000 detainees as well as utility capacity for 7,000 detainees.

 

The facility consisted of twelve (12) general population blocks and one (1) solitary confinement block. Each block consisted of a masonry and concrete two-story open structure covered with a K-Span exterior structure.

 

Ancillary support structures were provided with a mixture of traditional load bearing brick structures as well as pre-engineered buildings.

 

The facility including over thirty (30) support buildings ranging from the facilities command headquarters, Level III Clinic, Visor Center, Dog Kennel, and various teaching facilities.

 

A self contained utility system was provided for this facility including a 12 MVA diesel fired power plant, Water Treatment Plant with bulk raw and potable storage, as well as a Waste Water Treatment Plant.
